New England Pet Hospice, Inc. was founded in 2010 to promote the philosophy of hospice in end of life care for animals.
We are, first and foremost, animal lovers at heart with a deep love, respect and commitment to the welfare of our animal companions. We are also deeply committed to the hospice philosophy of tending to the needs of the whole being - physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual - at the end of life, and supporting the entire family through the final illness, death and mourning periods. We work regularly in the human hospice field, are active Delta Society Pet Partners and study the field of Thanatology (death, dying and bereavement) through a number of professional organizations, but most prominently the Association for Death Education and Counseling and the National Center for Death Education.
We follow the lead of pioneers in the animal hospice field such as Dr. Ella Bittel (Spirits in Transition), Dr. Kathryn Marrochino (The Nikki Hospice Foundation), and Gail Pope (Bright Haven). We are enormously grateful for their support and guidance as we develop New England Pet Hospice.
